Orchids are beautiful and rare flowers, there are more than 25,000 cataloged species, but it is difficult to find them outside their natural habitat. They can also be found in many colors and shapes, but our favorites are white and purple. These flowers can represent a challenge to take care of them, but don’t worry, here are some tips for you to become an expert, in addition to the meaning of these flowers.
Purple orchids are considered a symbol of wisdom and perseverance and are related to people who work in law, justice, and very social jobs. In addition, it is said that they represent prudence and truth. White Orchids symbolize sophistication, as well as new beginnings, which is why they are perfect as a gift when someone changes their home, job, or space in general. This color also represents purity, which is why in many countries, bridal bouquets are complemented with white orchids, as it is also believed to symbolize good fortune.
And now, how do I take care of it?
Sun
It needs to be in a lighted space, but not with direct sun, so try to put it in a corner with natural light in your space.
Water
These plants need water that is low in minerals since if you water them with normal water, their roots will not support it; Purified water is a good option for these little plants. If they have bark in the pot, it is necessary to water them once a week, if they only have soil, watering is every week and a half or two, depending on the humidity in the environment. Remember that irrigation is by submersion, not from above.
Temperature
They do not resist the cold, but neither do they resist excessive heat. Keep them always at a temperature between 10ºC and 30ºC.
Prune
Believe it or not, when the buds fall off the stem begins to die, so it is necessary that as soon as the last flower falls and there are no more buds, cut the stem a few centimeters so that the plant does not die.
Orchids don’t usually have more than two flowering times a year, so don’t worry if their flowers fall off, eventually, you’ll see more buds. Of course, never let it lose its lower leaves, which causes its death.
Transplanting
If you managed to keep it alive for 1 and a half or 2 years, then you are officially a master in orchids and the time has come to change it from the pot. Try to make it glass so that its roots have light, and so it always has drainage.
